La videoinstallazione monocanale, vuole restituire un aspetto della personalità della grande mecenate estense che governò Mantova, una delle donne più autorevoli del Rinascimento. Due sono i momenti affiancati che si compiono nel tempo: la gioventù caratterizzata dall’intensa vita sociale e politica e la maturità. Nell’inquadratura di sinistra vediamo Isabella, sposa giovanissima al centro di un continuo vociare, nell’inquadratura di destra, il silenzio rappresentato dall’immagine del soffitto della grotta di Palazzo Ducale dove compare l’Impresa delle pause ripetuta nel decoro della volta a botte. L’impresa è costituita da un pentagramma incorniciato su fondo oro, in cui sono raffigurati una chiave, quella di contralto, corrispondente al registro della voce di Isabella, seguita dal segno grafico del valore della misura musicale riempita solo da vari tipi di pause, ora più lunghe, ora più brevi, ora ripetute. Un infinito silenzio. L’Isabella erudita e neoplatonica spinge chi entra nel suo ambiente a riflessioni interiori sull’arte, sul trascorrere ineluttabile del tempo, sulla meditazione che il solo silenzio sa riempire di significato.
The single-channel video installation aims to restore an aspect of the personality of the great Isabella d’Este the patron who governed Mantua, one of the most authoritative women of the Renaissance. In the video there are two moments side by side that take place over time: youth, characterized by an intense social and political life and maturity. In the left frame we see Isabella, a very young bride at the center of a continuous shouting. In the right frame, the silence represented by the image of the ceiling of the cave of Palazzo Ducale where the Enterprise of the pauses appears repeated in the decoration “impresa delle pause” of the barrel vault. The decoration consists of a pentagram framed on a gold background, in which a key is depicted, the contralto one, corresponding to the register of Isabella’s voice, followed by the graphic sign of the value of the musical measure filled only by various types of pauses, now longer, now shorter, now repeated. An infinite silence. The erudite and Neoplatonic Isabella pushes those who enter her environment to internal reflections on art, on the inevitable passing of time, on meditation that only silence can fill with meaning.
